As a kid, I got a kick out of spinning the globe in my mum's study and seeing so many unfamiliar countries whiz by. I remember my dad explaining that their old globe showed East and West Germany, so they got this new one to show how things looked now. Needless to say, the new one soon became outdated too. It shows Yugoslavia, the USSR, and other countries whose changing names, composition, and borders are intertwined with the international crimes that I research and teach about today. My own country (Australia) remains unchanged, prompting me to reflect on ongoing calls to recognise First Nations sovereignty here.
